You have no shortage of options when looking for a full-size truck these days, including a variety of models from a wide range of brands. Just going to a Chevy and GMC dealer, you will find yourself looking at the Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, plus the HD models for both of these fantastic truck lineups. So with that in mind, how are you to choose which of these trucks is right for you, or even start to figure out what might work best?

Fortunately for you, you don’t have to try to manage all of this on your own—we are here to help. Amongst the various options available to you, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 sets itself apart from everything else out there by providing you with incredible performance, robust capability, and a fantastic number of options designed to ensure you can find exactly what you need. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite things about this remarkable truck, and you’ll see what makes it so impressive.

Four Incredible Engines to Choose From

It might seem a bit cliché to focus on the engine when looking at a full-size truck, but that tradition exists for a reason. The engine in a truck is crucial to how it performs and what it’s like to drive it, so few things are as important at a glance. Looking at the 2024 GMC Sierra, it starts off with a fantastic TurboMax I-4 engine that provides 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque—that’s best-in-class standard torque in this truck. For something with more horsepower, there’s an available 5.3L V8 engine that offers 355 hp and greater towing than the standard engine (but we’ll get to that in a moment).

If you want truly exceptional performance from your full-size truck, then you need to check out the available 6.2L V8 engine that delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. This is our favorite for the GMC Sierra unless you want a diesel engine. If you’re interested in a diesel, then your options have grown slim these days—fret not, however, because the GMC Sierra still has an available 3.0L Duramax turbo diesel engine that puts out 305 hp and a massive 495 lb-ft of torque. As other manufacturers abandon the reliability and power of diesel engines in their trucks, GM remembers what truck owners want and need from their pickups.

Hard-Working, Serious Capability

We know not everyone is going to get full use of the towing or payload potential of their truck, but it’s nice to have it there when you need it. It’s easy to assume you’ll never want to load up your truck bed with 1,500 lbs of stuff, but then you find yourself looking at a major landscaping project for your backyard and suddenly the ability to haul dozens of bags of mulch and soil is about to save you a lot of time. Looking at the standard TurboMax engine, when properly equipped it can handle up to 2,240 lbs of payload capacity and up to 9,500 lbs of towing. The available 5.3L V8 we mentioned earlier tops out at a similar payload rating but it can handle up to 11,200 lbs of towing, so keep that in mind when considering which engine is right for you.

If that 6.2L V8 engine catches your eye, then you should note that it can support up to 1,820 lbs of payload and up to 13,000 lbs of maximum towing. Finally, the powerful diesel engine can handle up to 1,890 lbs of payload and 13,200 lbs of max towing capacity. You can see that these numbers are all impressive, but there are some significant differences between them, so choose carefully when shopping for a GMC Sierra. The right truck can handle the weight you need, and it’s always a good idea to err on the side of greater capability than you might expect.

Gorgeous Interior Design

On the inside, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is absolutely gorgeous, with a spacious design that welcomes you in. This is a sophisticated truck for folks who want a vehicle that you’ll actually look forward to driving each day, not some barebones thing that rattles every time you hit the freeway. Beyond the starting Pro trim, if you look at the SLE model it comes with comfortable cloth seating including a 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar, dual-zone automatic climate control, and much more. Of course, you can always step up to the stunning Denali Ultimate trim for Forge perforated leather seats, including 16-way power front seats with massage functionality, ventilated front seats for added comfort in the summer, and luxurious interior details throughout.

Innovative Tech Features to Enjoy

The GMC Sierra is well known for its sophisticated features, which include impressive technology that puts many other trucks out there to shame. Again, looking past the Pro model that is mostly intended for fleet use, the SLE trim features a stunning 13.4-inch GMC Premium Infotainment display with Google built-in. This is paired with a massive 12.3-inch color Driver Information Center, plus you get keyless open and start with remote start functionality that makes it easier to get going in the morning.

If we check out the Denali Ultimate model, then things go up to another level with a 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system with CenterPoint technology, a 15-inch multi-color head-up display projected onto the windshield, and a wireless charging pad to help you keep your devices charged. You can even get GM’s remarkable Super Cruise hands-free driving tech on the Sierra 1500, elevating your time on the road.

Tons of Options to Meet Your Needs

So far, you might’ve noticed we’ve mentioned a few different trim levels, but those are far from the only ones available. The Pro model is ideal for building or adding to a fleet with scaled down features to keep costs low while still providing exceptional power and performance. We prefer the SLE as a starting point for our customers, while the Elevation and SLT both build on those features to give you a more refined driving experience. The Denali trim is an exceptional choice if you want elevated luxury and comfort, while the Denali Ultimate goes even further with incredible features we’ve touched on already. If you would like to take your truck off-road or deal with rugged terrain, then check out the AT4 and AT4X models for incredible performance on the trail. Speaking of which…

Looking to Head Off-Road?

These aforementioned AT4 and AT4X models are absolutely incredible for heading off-road whether you love camping on the weekend, need to reach remote locations for work, or deal with a lot of dirt and gravel roads each day. The AT4 model comes with four-wheel drive, 18-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires, an off-road two-inch factory lift with Monotube Rancho shocks, and the Duramax turbo diesel engine.

Somehow, the AT4X model takes things even further with class-exclusive driver-selectable full-locking front and rear differentials, strong skid plates to protect your truck’s underbody, and more. You can even choose an AT4X AEV Edition for stamped steel front and rear bumpers, hot-stamped boron steel skid plates, and much more; no matter how rugged you need your truck to be, the Sierra is ready.

The GMC Sierra Is in a League of Its Own

Honestly, we’ve only explored the tip of the iceberg when it comes to highlighting the incredible features and options available for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. We didn’t mention the remarkable six-function MultiPro tailgate or available CarbonPro carbon fiber composite bed that provide you with impressive and functional cargo space for everything you need to take with you.

We only glanced at the features and options available for the eight different trim levels that GMC offers on the Sierra this year. Plus, with GMC Pro Safety tech standard on every model and more available to protect you and others on the road, this is a truck designed to elevate your daily drive.
